Commentator for today’s session (Sunday Oct 11th) talks way too much which is annoying and a distraction from my goal.
I signed up for a free trial and later discovered I’d been charged $25.19 every month for five months — $125.95 total. During those five months, I never received or saw a single email from Pliability alerting me that my trial was ending or that my credit card was being charged month after month. I searched my Gmail thoroughly—nothing. Pliability claims their system shows emails were sent. When I asked them to provide copies, they said they couldn’t produce them or even show me what those emails said. I canceled immediately when I discovered the charges and asked for a refund or even a partial goodwill refund. They refused every request. Yes, the recurring charge was disclosed in the signup process. I missed it. But a company converting a “free” trial into an ongoing paid subscription should make darn sure customers know they’re being charged—not quietly collect $25.19 month after month. My $125.95 lesson: Be very careful with Pliability’s free trial and watch your credit-card statement.
UPDATE: I previously wrote a review complaining about struggles I had with the app after an updated platform that actually made the app harder to use (see below). Today I received an email about a new feature that directly addressed one of my issues. The app now has a session generator that allows you to tailor a session to your needs. Thus far the feature looks promising, though with some limitations. I was able to generate a couple of sessions that met my needs perfectly. However, when I ended up with sessions that were not what I was looking for, I had to start all over. Once a session was generated, I couldn’t remove a specific exercise that I didn’t want to do or replace it with one I wanted (I was given specific replacement options, none of which I wanted). Still it’s a pretty cool feature that I think I’ll make good use of. OLD REVIEW: I’ve had the app for a couple of years. Really liked it at first, but lately it’s been buggy (e.g., I currently can’t access any of my favorite workouts because the app shuts down as soon as I select the workout); the search engine is completely worthless (seriously, if I search for an exact title, that should be the FIRST workout that appears, not a random workout that happens to contain one of the search words somewhere in the description - often, if the title is generic enough, I’ll get 50 results and none of them are the workout I’m looking for); and the workouts are redundant (literally, some of the older “named” workouts are EXACTLY duplicated in some of the newer workouts, where the title started with a date). Finally, it would be nice if there was a better mix of movements in each workout / more “full body” workouts. Having 5 “leg day” - oriented workouts in a single week is ridiculous. Upper body needs way more attention. Overall, for the subscription price, I expect better.
I used this service years ago when it was ROMWOD. I eventually stopped using it and believed that old membership was inactive. Later, after ROMWOD became Pliability, I wanted to use the service again. I was using a different email address by then and could not access my old account with my previous credentials, so I created a new Pliability account. I recently discovered that the old account had apparently remained active and was continuing to bill me. I contacted Pliability support, and to their credit they investigated it. Their own records confirmed that BOTH of my individual accounts were being billed simultaneously from December 2022 until May 2026 — 41 billing months. I explained that I obviously had no reason to knowingly purchase two memberships for myself to the same service. The older account originated around the ROMWOD/Pliability transition, used my old email address, and was an account I had been unable to access. That was precisely why I created the newer account. Pliability nevertheless refused to refund any of the duplicate payments, citing its no-refund policy and characterizing what I was requesting as a “goodwill refund.” What makes that response particularly disappointing is the resolution they offered instead: 41 months of free future Pliability access — exactly the number of months they confirmed I had paid for two memberships simultaneously. I had already cancelled Pliability because I no longer wanted the service. Giving me another 41 months of something I chose to cancel doesn’t reimburse the money I spent paying for two memberships at the same time. I understand a no-refund policy when someone forgets to cancel a subscription or simply doesn’t use what they purchased. That’s not what happened here. Pliability itself confirmed that the same customer paid for two individual memberships simultaneously for 41 months. I actually liked the product, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Companies are ultimately judged not only by their product but by how they handle unusual situations when something goes wrong. After 41 months of duplicate membership payments, I expected Pliability to recognize that this situation deserved more than simply pointing to a blanket no-refund policy. I hope Pliability reconsiders. UPDATE: After everything described above, I made one final request to Pliability to reconsider its decision based on the unusual circumstances and the fact that they themselves confirmed I had been paying for two memberships simultaneously for 41 months. Their entire response was: “Hi Jack, this is our final decision.” Unfortunately, that confirms that Pliability considers 41 months of future access an adequate resolution for 41 months during which they confirmed I was simultaneously paying for two memberships. I liked the product, but this experience completely changed my opinion of the company behind it. When a company confirms that one customer paid twice for the same individual service for 41 months, refuses to return any of those duplicate payments, and hides behind a blanket no-refund policy, it certainly gives the impression that keeping the money matters more than doing what is fair for the customer. Their final response to my request for reconsideration — “Hi Jack, this is our final decision.” — only reinforced that impression.
It’s a pretty expensive subscription and most of the videos are not working. It keeps playing the ending which is pretty much laying down and do nothing. Support seems to say it’s on my end…of course. Been a while and it just only plays endings. So you pay a subscription with really just 5-6 videos…as far as I’m concerned. Definitely not worth it. And if it’s just a bug, it’s not worth it for their customer support anyway.
What kind of respectable company won’t refund a subscription the day that it renews? I had thought my subscription was canceled because I didn’t see it active in my apple subscriptions. Turns out the sub was directly through the app, not through apple, and I asked them to refund me LITERALLY MINUTES after my subscription renewed for a whole year. They refused to refund me. Kind of mind blowing in today’s world that a company would refuse this request. Shows they don’t have any respect for their customers. MAKE SURE YOU DONT SET UP AUTO-RENEW.
