WHAT THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT · SHARE OF BAD REVIEWS
Missing features15%

36 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ No option to put Night mode and the app randomly switches to white screen.
★★★★★ Application lacks many many features and there are many missing contents of features.
★★★★★ I don't understand why this app lacks completely basic informations and functions.
Price and subscription11%

26 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ It's a shame for them, because now another store gets a cut where before my money would've all gone to GW.
★★★★★ Just like how they have done in the past, you can expect to spend money on digital products, only to lose access to it the second they decide to move to something else cos its not making them enough money.
★★★★★ Getting 50% off books is great but the frustration that comes with it just makes me feel like I should have paid full price to read on Kindle.
Lost data, sync, backup11%

26 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ So the hundreds of dollars worth of books/audio books I've bought from BL since 2017 are just completely gone.
★★★★★ Progress does not always sync correctly so when I open the app I have to flip through pages until I get back to where I left off.
★★★★★ Games Workshop, you're really gonna lose fans if you keep this up...
Login and account problems8%

19 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ When I emailed them they just said if I dig up all my old receipts and send them proof of purchases they'll restore them to my account.
★★★★★ Logging out all the time, it means you need an internet connection to log in all the time.
★★★★★ Linked my black library account to this app and none of my titles are available on the app and I haven't received any response from the support team in over 3 weeks of trying
Bugs, things not working7%

17 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Doesn't work offline when I'm in a hospital waiting room.
★★★★★ But this basic buggy thing does not even save your progress between devices, a BASIC feature if there ever was one for reading.
★★★★★ Great to have specials each month, but the interface is shockingly basic and glitchy.
Limits, credits, locked features5%

13 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Additionally the books you purchased are locked to the app and unavailable for download.
★★★★★ Audiobooks keep stopping if the screen is locked, this is the most annoying part.
★★★★★ No feature to sort books, no page counter (only percentage), no night mode or colour options, limited ability to change fonts and the app regularly loses place in a book.
Crashes and freezes3%

8 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ It doesn't remember the page you left off on most of the time, and the screen blacks out so frequently you have to force close the app to reset it.
★★★★★ Also randomly freezes what page it remembers you on, off or online.
★★★★★ At least this app doesn't crash mid-drive like the old app though!
No customer support3%

8 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Don't support this behaviour.
★★★★★ Linked my black library account to this app and none of my titles are available on the app and I haven't received any response from the support team in over 3 weeks of trying
★★★★★ Going to contact citizens advice to file a formal complaint.

★★★★★ It's bug free but it lacks even basic features.
★★★★★ also the free books were a good start
★★★★★ Didn't had a nice working GW App on my Bingo Card this year but here it is, in App Ebook and Audio player is working great 👍 and till next month (April.2026) you get a bunch of Warhammer/30k/40k E&audiobooks for free,…
Easy to use14%

★★★★★ For a brand new app it is incredibly well polished, easy to navigate and find the book you want, and the design of the app is easy on the eye.
★★★★★ It is easy to navigate and for a short period as the app has just been released you get some free books to download.
★★★★★ Altogether a very handy and user friendly compilation of the Black Library offerings.

★★★★★ For me the app works well.i know some are having problems but to me it works well.if you leave mid chapter it will put you back wear you were, unlike what most reviews say.

★★★★★Oct 14, 2026

No option to put Night mode and the app randomly switches to white screen.

★★★★★Oct 11, 2026

This application is being held by tapes and imperial prayers. Application lacks many many features and there are many missing contents of features. I won't list all but ones that are actually important are wishlist functions and actual list of all books published by black library, just show them even if you don't provide ebook or audio option

★★★★★Oct 10, 2026

Doesn't work offline when I'm in a hospital waiting room. Can't use the purchases in an ereader. What a waste of time.

★★★★★Oct 9, 2026

Can't add favourites. Can't add a wish list. Can't add a list of books already read. Can't easily see all books in a subseries or by a particular author. Doesn't include recommended reading order. very, very. basic

★★★★★Oct 7, 2026

(+): great design. Fonts for dyslexia. Great deals on books. Easily accessible (-): the app saves my progress several pages back even if I only change apps for a couple of seconds. No offline mode: If you're in a place with poor reception and you didn't open the app beforehand, it will never allow you to read downloaded books. Potential: no easy way to jump pages in case there are footnotes like i. Cain's books or if you want to consult the dramatis personae. Could use a dictionary function

★★★★★Oct 7, 2026

The reading experience is really hampered by the fact that I can see my time battery strength and all my buttons while I'm trying to read all that needs to disappear until I touch the screen like every other reading app. This is app continues to offer terrible reading experience. Hasn't been fixed after several months.
