★★★★★ Unfortunately, critical bugs won't let me switch away from Plappa.
★★★★★ Off-line mode broken and the developer has an addressed it after being notified of the issue on a support forum.
★★★★★ I downloaded several books for a recent trip. Even in offline mode app tried to connect to server and wouldn't play downloaded books

★★★★★ Since the release of the version in November, the app has become functionally useless. What once was the gold standard now has become a complete waste of time. Look elsewhere.
★★★★★ The app has been updated multiple times and I've had hopes it would be fixed, but after months the app is unusable with audiobookshelf server.
★★★★★ Unfortunately widgets are broken here and don't update with last played book as advertised.

★★★★★ Since the release of the version in November, the app has become functionally useless. What once was the gold standard now has become a complete waste of time. Look elsewhere.
★★★★★ But for the last month or so the app will crash every couples of minutes, making it impossible to listen.
★★★★★ After entering username / password, app crashes.

★★★★★ It never stops trying to synchronise.
★★★★★ Used for about ten minutes and deleted.
★★★★★ Editing my previous review as I now see where the percentage of progress is shown (only when online), but now the app is losing my progress when closed online. If it can get online at all as it now seems permanently…

★★★★★ Since the release of the version in November, the app has become functionally useless. What once was the gold standard now has become a complete waste of time. Look elsewhere.
★★★★★ The fact that this app requires a upfront purchase when it lacks core features its crazy, definitely a predatory pricing model.

★★★★★ I am connecting to an instance of Audiobookshelf and I have to log in every other time that I open the app.
★★★★★ After entering username / password, app crashes.

★★★★★ This just sits at loading when i try to play audiobooks I've downloaded offline, if im connected to my local network it works but offline play is what i bought this for.
★★★★★ Maybe the UI is ever so slightly tidier than plappa, but the entire app is just slow as can be.

★★★★★ I'm really happy overall with ShelfPlayer as it manages my audiobooks via audiobookshelf running on my Linux server. The problem is, it occasionally starts the book from the beginning. This isn't a huge deal for…
★★★★★ Couple thoughts and potential update requests. 1. Given that this app supplements an app for self hosted environments, putting Audio Bookshelf on the public internet is risky for us home users. The mobile app allows…
★★★★★ App works great, but I wish you could customize the playback speed to my own increments and go beyond 2x.

★★★★★ If ebook support was brought to this app, I would almost definitely use it more.
★★★★★ A one time payment to support this project is entirely reasonable.
★★★★★ The only thing that would make this app even better would be adding Apple Watch support for offline listing when I don't bring my phone with me.
4 of the 4 and 5 star reviews.
★★★★★ I have multiple long series that I enjoy re-listening to, and this is a simple way to do that.
★★★★★ I like that it is easy to up the speed from 1 to 1.25 and so on.
★★★★★ Rarely are apps so easy to set up and work exactly how I expect right out of the box.
4 of the 4 and 5 star reviews.
★★★★★ This the most elegant and beautiful app I have ever used.
★★★★★ The design is great, and it's ridiculously full featured.
★★★★★ I like the UI even more than the official ABS client in TestFlight.
3 of the 4 and 5 star reviews.
★★★★★ Until it's smooth and snappy, I'd rather have the whole player slide down off the bottom of the screen quickly and smoothly than have a fancy animation that feels slow and finicky.
★★★★★ Quick tip: the app can be extensively customized.
★★★★★ I'm so impressed how well put together and smooth and full-featured this app is.

Latest reviews, Germany App Store.
This app was wonderful when I bought it about a year ago. Noticed recently a spat of crashes while streaming and lag connecting to my NAS. Now I’ve seen the app has been sold to another company. The quality of app has def not improved. I cannot recommend this app in its current state unless stability improves. Thank you.
It was a great app maintained by an indie developer. New management has added an ugly splash screen, and eventually made it unusable.
Was good when it was a solo dev making something useful. Noticed the new ugly splash screen, AI slop marketing, and new AI company owners. Only a matter of time before this app gets ruined due to greed.
Recent updates have made this app nearly unusable for me. It used to be great but now accessing off-line mode when I have zero or very weak cellular signal is nearly impossible and extremely frustrating.
When using offline mode books will randomly skip forward various amounts of time which is infuriating when driving. Happens surprisingly often.
I really enjoyed using this app and working with the previous indie developer on problems and features. However, looking at the new devs they do a lot of AI slop apps and buy up other developers apps to add tracking and vibe code experiences. I fear the future of this app won’t be the same of being able to connect to our audio book shelf services. The developers who own this app have not shown interest with working with the team that handles the audio book shelf server. I would not recommend this app anymore under new management from this AI slop dev team.
