Store description
We believe that learning piano and music theory (chords, scales and composition) can be much easier. Chords and Scales lets you explore music theory in a simple, interactive way: see it, hear it, and play it.
Explore
• A large chord library: every chord type, in every key and inversion
• Every important scale, from major and minor to modes, pentatonics, and bebop
• Chord progressions you can hear in any key, major and minor
• Everything shown on a virtual piano and in staff notation, with audio playback: ascending, descending, or all at once
• Scale fingerings, highlighted dynamically as the scale plays
• Chord finder: tap piano keys or place notes on the staff to identify any chord
Learn
• Circle of fifths: key signatures and chords in every key, with short lessons and a quiz
• Exercises: quiz, flashcards, ear training and chord entry, plus an optional daily practice reminder
• Guided scale practice with your choice of tempo, hands and octaves
Compose
• Sketch songs chord by chord, organized into sections such as verse and chorus
• Chord suggestions based on your song's scale help you find progressions that work
• Play your song back instantly and keep refining it. Listening to a key in its different modes can easily spark an idea for a melody or riff
Chords and Scales is great for beginners building solid foundations, for students preparing for music theory or piano exams, and for experienced players and songwriters looking for fresh ideas. Use it next to a real piano, to train your ear, or to get better at sight reading.
The app puts a lot of focus on simplicity and ease of use: clean screens, consistent navigation, and one topic at a time. The fresh design follows your device colors on Android 12+ and supports light and dark themes.
Available in 12 languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Portuguese and Chinese.
Chords and Scales makes learning music theory fun and inspiring!
