The reason is that most things cost money; every event requires spending, and there are no events at all without it—or if there are, they aren't particularly special, or the developers cleverly introduce a pay-to-play element anyway. The game itself is good—the storyline and everything else—but there is another issue: whenever someone attacks your base, sometimes you can't see where the attack is coming from; you only see their troops approaching. That has been my worst experience with the game
