Store description
You can't buy a gun in California until you pass the Firearm Safety Certificate test. There is no state testing office. A DOJ Certified Instructor gives the test at a licensed firearms dealer, usually the gun store you plan to buy from. It is 30 questions, you need 23 right to pass, and the certificate is good for five years, so renewing means taking the test again. FSC Test gets you ready: study material, practice questions with the correct answer and source for each one, a handbook, practice tests and drill modes, all in one app.
Every illustration is drawn in full color, from the correct grip and the pistol cutaways to home storage and gunshot first aid. Answers and study material are checked against current California law.
Who it's for
Anyone taking the FSC test, whether it's your first certificate or a five-year renewal. And anyone who wants to learn more about firearms, shooting and self-defense.
Quick test
Random questions across the topics, for when you have five minutes in a parking lot.
Timed practice test
The real test length and passing score, with the clock running. An untimed version gives you the full test without the pressure.
Handbook and guides
Everything on the test in chapters you read, plus a step-by-step guide to getting your certificate, from the written test to picking up your gun. Every section cites the study guide chapter and page, or the Penal Code section, it is based on.
Practice one topic
Pick one topic and drill it until it sticks.
Practice your mistakes
The app remembers what you got wrong and brings it back, so you spend your time on what you don't know yet.
Question of the day
One question every day, drawn from the whole bank. A little practice daily, with a streak to keep alive.
Safe handling practice
Passing the written test is not the last step. Before the dealer hands over the firearm, you have to demonstrate safe handling in front of the instructor and sign an affidavit that you did. Here you walk through those steps for a pistol and a revolver, say each answer out loud, then compare it with the model answer.
Statistics
Where you stand topic by topic, and what still needs work.
On every question
The correct answer, an explanation in plain English, and the source it comes from: a study guide chapter and page, a Penal Code section, or a named publication. See feedback after each question, or save it for the end, the way the real test is scored.

About FSC Test
The practice questions are written from the 2025 California DOJ Firearm Safety Certificate Study Guide. The handbook, color illustrations, safe handling practice and step-by-step certificate guide are built around them. Answers follow that study guide, the DOJ FSC FAQs and the California Penal Code as it reads in 2026, including the storage sections operative from January 1, 2026. It is an independent study aid, not affiliated with the California DOJ. Topics A to E follow the official study guide scope; topic F is bonus material beyond the test.
