Surtaal Tabla is the most complete tabla practice app built for serious students and professional musicians alike. Whether you're a beginner finding your first teentaal or an advanced player refining your layakari, Surtaal Tabla gives you everything you need for meaningful daily riyaz. AUTHENTIC TABLA SOUND Every bol is recorded from a real tabla — not MIDI, not synthesized. Hear the true resonance of dayan and bayan across all major taals and raags. Surtaal Tabla preserves the acoustic character that makes Indian classical music come alive. COMPLETE TAAL LIBRARY Practice with all major taals including Teentaal (16 beats), Ektaal (12), Rupak (7), Jhaptaal (10), Kaharwa (8), Dadra (6), Keherwa, Deepchandi, and more. Each taal includes multiple variations so you can explore different bols and patterns. RAAG-MATCHED LEHRA Every raag has its own precisely tuned lehra. Choose from all major raags including Yaman, Bhairav, Kafi, Khamaj, Bhimpalasi, Bhairavi, Bilawal, Todi, Darbari, and dozens more — all with scale-accurate string accompaniment that stays in perfect sur with your tabla. PRACTICE JOURNAL Track every practice session automatically. The journal captures your raag, taal, BPM range, and duration without any manual input. Review your practice history, monitor streak days, set weekly targets, and watch your BPM progress over time. Your data syncs to the cloud so you never lose your history. PATTERN CREATOR Build and save your own custom taal patterns using the built-in bol palette. Add chhand (speed multipliers) for dugun, tigun, and chaugun. Share your patterns with the global community or keep them private. COMMUNITY PATTERNS Browse, load, and like patterns shared by tabla students and teachers worldwide. Discover new compositions, learn from other players, and contribute your own creations to a growing library of community patterns. BPM TRAINER Build speed gradually with the intelligent BPM trainer. Set target tempos and practice modes that challenge your timing and help you push your boundaries at a safe, structured pace. PITCH TUNER The built-in pitch tuner is calibrated to Indian music. Set your Sa reference frequency and see Indian sargam note names — Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni — instead of Western notation. Perfect for tuning your instrument before practice. TANPURA & SWARMANDAL Practice with a continuous tanpura drone tuned to your scale. The swarmandal auto-strums in your chosen raag, filling your practice space with rich harmonic texture. RECORDINGS Record your practice sessions — either the app audio directly or through your microphone. Review, rename, and share your recordings to track your progress or send clips to your guru. LOCK SCREEN CONTROLS Keep playing while you practice. Full lock screen and Control Centre support means you can control the tabla without touching your phone. CLOUD SYNC Sign in with Apple, Google, or email. Your journal, patterns, and preferences sync instantly across all your devices. WORKS OFFLINE All tabla sounds and your saved patterns, are available without an internet connection. Practice anywhere — no signal required. — Surtaal Tabla is built by musicians, for musicians.
