Birds of Ireland Field Guide

We've optimised the app for iOS 26 and fixed a few minor bugs.

BirdWatch Ireland operates over 30 local branches and has more than 15,000 members, making it the largest ornithological organisation in Ireland. This app offers a comprehensive guide to Ireland’s birdlife. All breeding bird species are included in the free version, while over 260 rare vagrant species can be unlocked with an annual subscription. A standout, one-of-a-kind feature of this app is the set of identification plates, custom-designed specifically for Ireland’s birds. These expertly crafted illustrations depict the various subspecies and plumage variations found across the country. Each plate highlights all major plumage differences, key identification features, and traits that help distinguish similar species. The plates are complemented by detailed text covering taxonomy, abundance, size, appearance, identification tips, potential lookalikes, ecology, vocalisations, breeding, and behaviour. The free base version also includes powerful tools such as manual ID features, a ‘similar species’ finder, comparison views, European distribution maps, and the ability to create and manage your own sightings and field lists.
