I’ve recently started subscribing to the FT Weekend in ‘old school’ printed format and with the subscription I received their digital edition access to the weekly paper. I must say that I have been really impressed with the digital app. What I particularly love is how well it complements the physical newspaper. The digital edition gives you the full broadsheet layout, so you can browse the paper exactly as you would with the print edition and see the headlines, sections and editorial hierarchy at a glance. But with one tap on a headline, you can switch straight into a much more user-friendly reading format. It gives you the best of both worlds: the experience of browsing a newspaper, with the convenience of digital reading. I also really like the listen option, which makes the articles genuinely useful when commuting. Being able to choose something interesting in the app and then listen to it while travelling is a great feature. I’ve found myself using the app during breaks at work and while commuting, while keeping the physical FT Weekend for my slower weekend reading. The two formats complement each other exceptionally well. A beautifully designed app that manages to preserve the character of a traditional newspaper while taking advantage of everything digital can offer.
