The Pressure to subscribe immediately is distracting.

I wanted to try Blinkist on their “free” seven day trial but their sign up format makes it look like you are signing up for a year no matter what. I read the lengthy TOA as I suggest everyone should. I am currently using Blinkist for its once a day free curator chosen Book Summary. I have listened to two summaries so far and will write another review if I choose to subscribe to their premium subscription. So far I have enjoyed the summaries but Blinkist’s lack of transparency is irritating. What exactly does the subscription get you? Do I have to pay additional fees if I want to read or listen to summaries outside of my initially chosen field? All I can say at this point is “buyer beware”! Just because Mark Cuban or Apple give it great reviews doesn’t make it a great app IMO. We will see.

Sneaky subscription practices.

When you sign up for the seven day free trial, they will tell you that they will email you with two days left to remind you of your upcoming paid subscription. What they don’t tell you is they email you every single day (email fatigue) and the message that they send to allow you to opt out of the subscription is titled, “quick one from us.” Vague at best. Easily skipped. That email subject slipped through the cracks for me and I was begrudgingly charged for the next year subscription. I tried out the service during the first couple of days of my trial and was not impressed

Shady auto renew

Something shady about their auto renew. It didn’t show up as a subscription under my Apple ID like all of my other apps do. So I got billed on auto renew even though I didn’t know I had a subscription.
