Originally, we thought to make a spreadsheet. But then one in the group suggested this all instead. Much easier to use, and you can settle the debts in the app or using third party things like Venmo. Amazing. recommended this by a friend
Splitwise’s business practices and customer service are absolutely appalling. I signed up for Splitwise for a ONE-TIME USE and believed I had cancelled my trial days before I was charged $60 for a subscription I never intended to keep. I only discovered the charge when reviewing my credit card statement. When I tried to cancel through the app, I was met with an error message that prevented me from completing the cancellation. But the subscription charge is only part of the problem. Splitwise has made it virtually impossible to get a real human being to help resolve the issue. Their so-called “customer service number” is a complete joke. Instead of connecting customers with an actual representative, you get an automated message instructing you to email their support team. When you finally take the time to email support, you receive yet another automated response. So you’re passed from one automated system to another, with no meaningful assistance and no clear path to getting your money back. Think about that: they can charge your credit card $60, but when you try to cancel or get help, you can’t even speak to a real person. Meanwhile, their own app throws an error when you attempt to cancel. This is an infuriating and deeply consumer-unfriendly experience. The unexpected charge, the failed cancellation process, and the complete lack of accessible human support make the entire experience feel predatory and dishonest. Customers should not have to jump through hoops, chase automated emails, and waste their time fighting to reverse a charge for a subscription they never intended to continue. A company that respects its customers makes pricing transparent, cancellations straightforward, and customer support accessible. Splitwise has failed on every one of these fronts in my experience. I am demanding a full refund of the $60 charge and cancellation of my subscription. I will not recommend Splitwise to anyone based on this experience. Save yourself the headache. Think twice before giving this company your payment information. An app designed to help people split expenses should not leave its customers feeling like they’re the ones being taken advantage of.
Well golly times have changed. This app used to be the standard for splitting expenses, but now it’s like every other app. Gotta make that $$.
