★★★★★ Wow complete failure. The latest version won't even open. What a laughing stock!
★★★★★ Other than the NZ Herald being obsessed with American “news,” the app is very buggy and crashes during every use.
★★★★★ Constantly crashes, videos won't play and having to click for 'more' related to the topic you have chosen is a pain.

★★★★★ With this last update, I can no longer open the app.
★★★★★ Since the last update, the app signed me out, even though I am a pain subscriber every single day sometimes several times a day.
★★★★★ New update that allows premium content (that is unreadable unless paid for) on to the news feed is very frustrating as it means you can't read half the articles.

★★★★★ It is laughable how the Herarld awards itself News App of the Year every year without fail in a New Zealand field of one entrant.

★★★★★ We are already paying a subscription, so when do we get so many ads?
★★★★★ I subscribe to The Herald for news; not to know what Mike Hosking is doing on ZM.
★★★★★ Almost all the content that is interesting is behind the paywall.

★★★★★ So, I've deleted it from all my devices.

★★★★★ Have already deleted the app and will never read news from this source again.

★★★★★ We are already paying a subscription, so when do we get so many ads?
★★★★★ Also, while we're at it, my biggest complaint is that I'm a subscriber, and I still have a ton of ads pushed at me.
★★★★★ Every second article is now restricted Premium with constant ads to subscribe.

★★★★★ Ugly and cumbersome UI and the news is slow to update and old stories stay posted for weeks.
★★★★★ Please can you look into why your content is so slow to appear when loading the app?
★★★★★ Unfortunately the most recent update has rendered the app slow and cumbersome to use.

★★★★★ This is the worst news platform I have ever used. The news articles are written in a poor logical order with lots of repeated information and readers can hardly get the key ideas. A waste of time! Some of the articles…
★★★★★ Fed up of getting a notification to listen to something live and then opening it only to see and not hear it, happens almost all the time, no sound. Also WAY too much paid promotions disguised as news releases. Toppled…
★★★★★ Loved this app, but now it's useless as it constantly crashes.

★★★★★ Easy to navigated but it does not allow online comment to opinion pieces which is frustrating.
★★★★★ It works fine, easy enough to read, not that different from the older version.

★★★★★ I also enjoy the travel section and other areas.
★★★★★ Throughly enjoy reading the NZ Herald as I live in the US and it keeps me informed and up to date.
★★★★★ I have relatives who live in NZ and enjoy reading their current event news!!!

★★★★★ I love it when big companies feel the need to upgrade something that works perfectly fine and proceed to screw it up.
★★★★★ Nice mix of high quality pics and stories.

No matter how good the App is it cannot lift the abysmal standard of clickbait and nonsense masquerading as quality journalism
With this last update, I can no longer open the app. Nor can I ‘update’ it, even though it was previously working. So, I’ve deleted it from all my devices.
I’ve been using the Herald paid subscription for quite a few years now, and I keep hoping the developers will realize the effect the app has on iPad battery life - but to no avail. I use MANY apps on my iPad (latest generation, latest OS), but one thing unique to the Herald is the way it drains the battery even when not in use. For example, if I read the Herald late in the day (I live in the US), then close the lid on the iPad when the battery shows (e.g.) 80% remaining, when I wake up in the morning and open the iPad the battery has usually dropped significantly - often as low as 10% remaining. The only way I can stop this happening is to force-quit the Herald app before closing the lid - which is not the case with the other apps I have loaded. I’ve tested this behavior by quitting all other apps except the Herald - then closing the lid and leaving it closed overnight. Sure enough the battery drains even though the iPad is closed. Seems like the Herald must be doing something non-standard in the background for this to happen - or maybe it’s just a Kiwi thing demanding constant attention. The other major bugbear is the moderation of comments, which is VERY inconsistent and VERY one-sided. Some quite offensive comments get through, but other reasonable comments get rejected with no explanation. I guess it comes down to which moderator is on shift at the time, and which political leanings they have. Either way, very frustrating.
Please get rid of the annoying red banner that keeps popping up ..even when you close it . Also in the app format, all comments don’t load. Way too many video/live/sliding ads and moving/sliding property ads. All of these are way too distracting when you just want to read the articles . The huge background ads are very annoying also. The Herald is the best news site and I don’t mind paying but it is getting almost unreadable with all the distractions. Thanks
As an expat kiwi I love being kept up to date.

Apple only publishes ads shown in the EU (EU Digital Services Act), with a 7 day delay. An app that advertises only outside the EU shows nothing here.
