Small app: combines its grossing ranks with ratings growth (61 new ratings a month on average since launch). Tested on 418 apps with verified revenue: typically off by about 2.6 times, so the range is wide. Countries we don't track (and Google Play in China, which doesn't exist) aren't included, and neither are ads or web payments. Gross revenue before store fees.

54 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Ever since y'all did an update about 6-8 months ago.
★★★★★ Have to log in now just to highlight a verse. Don't like the privacy policy
★★★★★ New version doesn't allow voice options with audio that were previously free.
Price and subscription33%

45 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ The Word of God is free to all and discipleship shouldn't be a subscription service.
★★★★★ Will not allow me to cancel The subscription
★★★★★ Now it's under a paywall as well as other content.
Login and account problems18%

25 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I've tried to log in with my email but it always says there's an error with my email please try again
★★★★★ I had an extremely difficult time setting up an account, it kept saying that my email was wrong, multiple times.
★★★★★ Now it's asking me to sign in when it was open.
Lost data, sync, backup12%

17 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I purchased the ESV study bible app years ago and now Crossways is updating and I have lost all access to the study bible.
★★★★★ Very clunky, does not sync across platforms.
★★★★★ I was informed that they were coming out with this new app and that this one would be able to sync everything from the old one to this app .
Bugs, things not working9%

12 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I've tried to log in with my email but it always says there's an error with my email please try again
★★★★★ Devotionals fail to load properly on a consistent basis, or play video without sound.
★★★★★ Email and password doesn't work.
Limits, credits, locked features9%

12 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ You have to pay for a narrator $5 a month.
★★★★★ I'm pretty unhappy that previously available content is now locked after updating.
★★★★★ I've been locked out of my account.
Missing features7%

10 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Will not allow me to cancel The subscription
★★★★★ I like the style of the app, but I quickly realized that there's no way to go to one chapter, start on the New Testament, or look at a specific verse, you have to read IN ORDER FRONT TO BACK, there's no way to change…
★★★★★ VERY CRITICAL ALERT!!! NIV was published by Zondervan but is now OWNED by Harper Collins, who also publishes the Satanic Bible and The Joy of Gay Sex. •The NIV and ESV has now removed 64,575 words from the Bible…
Crashes and freezes6%

8 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ The daily reading doesn't open on the current date or where you left off reading requiring you to scroll through the weeks to get to where you left off.
★★★★★ However, the reading plan just spins / freezes and nothing gets played.
★★★★★ However, after an update that gives a crash immediately and then another that supposedly fixed it, but doesn't, I think ESV is headed for strike three..
WHAT THEY ASK FOR
  • I really wish there was a way to make the text size a little bigger or bolder than the maximum size they allow. 4★, Oct 18, 2026
  • I wish the audio would remember the last verse and pick up from there the next time I press play. 3★, Oct 14, 2026
  • It takes care of all your Bible needs and much more. 5★, Sep 15, 2026
  • Please bring Apple CarPlay 4★, Jul 20, 2026
  • I want a Bible with a table of contents that shows all books of the Bible. 1★, Jul 15, 2026
  • The one thing missing that would be great is a Home Screen widget that allows you to choose a verse to display. 5★, Jul 11, 2026
  • I know they say you should never read only one verse without the context, but it would be nice to display a memory verse on my Home Screen so I see it all the time. 5★, Jul 11, 2026
  • However, I wish I could use the language tools I have access to via the web version right in this app. 4★, Jun 28, 2026

Really like it but…

I really wish there was a way to make the text size a little bigger or bolder than the maximum size they allow. Would be willing to pay for this app if it would give me a few more display options.

Update audio feature

I love this app. I pay the subscription so I can choose from more voices for audio. I fall asleep listening to this every night. I use the sleep timer. However when I do this, the app does not remember the verse it ended on. And I don’t either because I fell asleep. I wish the audio would remember the last verse and pick up from there the next time I press play.

Reading the entire Bible

At age 79, I really enjoy reading through the Bible by following my ESV study Bible and hearing one of your readers read the section of the Bible I’m following

PLEASE ADD DARK MODE!

This is a pretty incredible app and very helpful with the digital study guide. The big problem is that it does not have any version of dark mode on it. Sometimes I don’t want a big bright white screen on my iPad so I often have it on dark mode. I really hope the app developer adds this feature too. I’m using the free trial but I will probably cancel until they offer dark mode.

An amazing gift!

Have been using this app for over 15 years. Incredible resource for Bible readers. I’m still in shock that it is free (as it should be) in today’s modern world. So thankful to God for your ministry!
