WHAT THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT · SHARE OF BAD REVIEWS
Price and subscription20%

18 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ insight app used to be my gold standard meditation app, but every update makes it less like a meditation app and more like a social media platform. Ever since they added the video feature, when you open the app instead…
★★★★★ NOW, it monitors how many times I listen to a track and then won't let me listen to it unless I buy a subscription!!!
★★★★★ Signing up for a trial of Plus is also a headache too.
Lost data, sync, backup17%

15 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Only get this app if you want to lose time daily to a wellness corporation.
★★★★★ if you lose your lose your train of thought for a few seconds - you have to restart the entire meditation if you want to follow along properly.
★★★★★ It's manipulative and makes me lose my motivation.
Worse after an update11%

10 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ insight app used to be my gold standard meditation app, but every update makes it less like a meditation app and more like a social media platform.
★★★★★ However, it has a glitch and starts at zero days practice every time it downloads an update!
★★★★★ Update: Did I just get a pop up about new live yoga right after I started my meditation timer?
Missing features11%

10 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ There is no option to disable the video thumbs (and video feature) or customise the layout.
★★★★★ So the app forces you into a feeling of missing goals.
★★★★★ there is no way to opt out of most of these features.
No customer support9%

8 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ And I refuse to use/support this app as long as this is the pay-to-play business model being implemented.
★★★★★ Regretfully, the support and the search features have only gotten worse and the search is complete rubbish.
★★★★★ I have tried to find support services.
Bugs, things not working7%

6 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ The app is so buggy and won't let me log in or reset my password.
★★★★★ And the database seems broken— it repeatedly tells me a meditation isn't available moments before letting me play it.
★★★★★ However, it has a glitch and starts at zero days practice every time it downloads an update!
Login and account problems6%

5 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ The app is so buggy and won't let me log in or reset my password.
★★★★★ Please just let us log in and use the app without turning it into rocket science.
★★★★★ The app has added constant, unavoidable questions when setting up and account or finishing a meditation.
Limits, credits, locked features4%

4 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Used this app for six years, and it's now virtually impossible to discover new content on the app, the filters are so limited, not meaningful and there's no sort available.
★★★★★ an alternate account and got locked out of that one.
★★★★★ you have to pay to rewind.
WHAT THEY ASK FOR
  • I know I'm not actively using my phone that many hours, but it would be great if there was a way to remove this information from the report. 5★, Oct 18, 2026
  • I wish I could reopen the app without feeling like if I don't do it every day is isn't worth anything, which seems to be what it's suggesting. 3★, Oct 16, 2026
  • Some days I wish I could easily select the speed of it: an instructor that's known to guide with more pauses, or one that's more cadenced. 4★, Oct 10, 2026
  • Insight Timer, if you're reading this, please make this a feature you can turn off. 3★, Sep 30, 2026
  • I suggest everyone should have this app. 5★, Sep 28, 2026
  • I wish there was a way to toggle off items you've already listened to. 5★, Sep 22, 2026
  • It would be nice to find or hear new teachers, or more seasoned/experienced teachers; it might be a good question to ask —find out how long they have been teaching. 4★, Sep 21, 2026
  • I like that I can choose what bell/gong sound I want and that I can also program a separate sound to happen intermittently throughout my meditation. 5★, Sep 12, 2026

Absolutely awesome

I love this app and use it basically every day

★★★★★Oct 21, 2026
Healing my soul

This was on point for what I’m experiencing in my life

★★★★★Oct 20, 2026
Best App on my Phone

By far the best app on my phone. Love the variety. Something for everyone it seems. And as someone with AuDHD, having a wide variety of options that I can add to playlists to return to allows me to balance my needs for novelty and familiarity. I was in the hospital earlier this year, listening to calming sounds and sleep stories from this app while there. It really was very comforting. I continue to use the music and nature tracks to help me sleep. And I also enjoy guided meditation and talks. I often recommend this app to my friends!

★★★★★Oct 20, 2026
Wastes your time with forced engagement

Used to use this app daily. Then they started forcing engagement with questions and emotion check ins. These are obnoxious and time wasting. Only get this app if you want to lose time daily to a wellness corporation.

★★★★★Oct 19, 2026
A Necessity

If there’s one app I’m ok with using very day, it’s this one. They’ve expanded tremendously with their offerings and still hold a fantastic standard.

★★★★★Oct 19, 2026
Really pushy agenda makes the app terrible to use, wish that wasn’t the case

The app is incredibly frustrating to use due to its relentless efforts to categorize users, push them to set up schedules and goals whether they want to or not, and then shower them with unwanted screens asking them to say “I’m committed” and engage with the product every day. Once in a great while, I’ll use the app for something specific. But I almost don’t even want to try! The experience outside of the actual teaching is so bad for me. Check out other reviews to see what I mean. I would want to give the app 3 stars because I’ve benefited from it. But the fact that Insight Timer doesn’t listen to feedback and change their ways means I’m going to leave a 1 star review with the goal of having more impact on the overall rating.
