★★★★★ No QA testing before each update? Now when using TTS and you tap the button to jump back, it jumps ahead instead. Acceptable for a free or cheap service, not acceptable at this price.
★★★★★ - Buggy: highlighting a word doesn't always bring up the menu to allow highlighting.
★★★★★ The main idea is good but the app has several bugs which you encounter on a daily basis.

★★★★★ App is extremely slow at initial open.
★★★★★ Love the idea, waited a long time for the app, but it's embarrassing how after two plus years of waiting to release the app is to this day very laggy, slow and has many bugs.

WHAT THEY ASK FOR
  • I love the physical experience of reading on my Kobo rather than phone or tablet, and I wish I could save articles to Reader, read on my Kobo, and have my highlights sync up. 5★, Jun 30, 2026
  • But it would be great to see a widget for the news feeder. 4★, Apr 7, 2026
  • I wish there were TTS playlists but that's not going to prevent me from happily giving 5 stars ✨ 5★, Mar 9, 2026
  • Please add a sleep timer The app is great so far 5★, Jan 26, 2026
  • Lots and lots of effort just to get a word definition or add a highlight. 1★, Aug 20, 2025
  • - More of a feature request: No document prioritization feature. 1★, Aug 20, 2025
  • But you can't reorder the documents in the home feed, nor can you add some sort of color or flag to mark which ones are higher priority or more important. 1★, Aug 20, 2025
  • I would love to see this app making signing in via email easier. 3★, Apr 30, 2025

Best Read Later App - Hands Down

This is the best read-it-later app that's ever been invented. Whether you are a power user or just a simple user, for $10 a month you can completely enhance your reading experience. With advanced AI features that you can use or not use, advanced tagging system, and beautiful design, you will enjoy this app no matter the use case. I read all my articles and books through this app using my E Ink reader, and the process is seamless and beautiful. Give this app a try. Learn how to use its basics, and you won't be let down.

absolutely worth it

this is the only app I’ve found worth paying a yearly subscription for. impeccable interface. so easy to use, yet so many awesome features. when I first started using Reader, I was between jobs. when my (already generous) free trial ended, they extended it by three more months for me + were highly responsive to emails. I did not feel like a random user; the Readwise team has repeatedly made me feel like a human. (I’ve now paid for the yearly subscription two years in a row, and I tell people how great this app is all the time.) another feature I love is having the ability to select the voice for the audio reader. I am hard of hearing with an odd kind of hearing loss. low pitched and especially high pitched voices are difficult for me to understand, so whether I can easily listen to an audiobook or podcast is dependent on the voice type. in Reader, I selected a voice that works great for me, so now I can listen to anything I can save. huge accessibility win. there are many other features I love as well. being able to search through things I’ve read all in one place is an amazing feature, among others. this is also one of the only apps where I actually appreciate the AI integration (even beyond the voice readers). ghostreader doesn’t feel forced on me, but it’s there for the occasional time I find it useful. I could go on, but I have some reading to do. I’m starting law school next year and SO glad I found this app before beginning. If this app exists for the rest of my life and the interface design + functionality stays this good, you’ve got a lifelong subscriber. I have major gratitude for the Readwise team. the ONE thing that would make this app even better for me is a Kobo (ereader) integration. if it had a Kobo integration, I’d officially call it the perfect app. I love the physical experience of reading on my Kobo rather than phone or tablet, and I wish I could save articles to Reader, read on my Kobo, and have my highlights sync up. overall, 5/5 app FOR SURE.

Wow!

So I came from rss.app and Feedly cause I want to keep up with the playoffs.. I understand reader isn’t fast pace but it’s what I’m looking for .. use Flipboard and whatever is out there to find an article dump it in my library.. get feeds dump then then read them on my own time.. I been doing read later for now .. don’t get me started on chatting with highlights. I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! Using it on laptop and phone ! Thank you devs!!

Just downloaded but my trial is expired?

This app must be connected to to original in terms of subscription. I’ve never used this one before but I’ve used the Readwise app; just downloaded this, signed up and it told me to subscribe to continue as my trial is expired. I can’t move past that page to even see what the app entails. Thats a real bummer, really wanted to try it as I get back into reading.

★★★★★Apr 21, 2026
Great app, disastrous quality control

The amount of bugs this app has is amongst the highest I've ever seen on any app, whether high quality or otherwise . It's too bad, because this thing is really, really, really good when it works. For at least a year or two now, my inbox on my iPhone just does not want to work properly. It takes forever to load, and I've cleared the cache and done everything in the instructions and troubleshooting, but nothing seems to happen. I really do hope the developers get their act together.

What's new in 8.25

New Text to Speech Voices — We are rolling out new (much more lifelike) voices in beta! They will eventually be updated to be the default voices, but in the mean time you can choose your favorite from the TTS voice selection sheet. Reading Themes — You can now choose from a variety of different reading themes, including Sepia, Slate, Soft, Ink, and more. GPT-6 Luna For Ghostreader Summaries — Tristan and Ibai upgraded Ghostreader’s default model for preset prompts, including the automatic summary and document tagging, so they’re now powered by GPT-6 Luna. As with previous default models, this is included with your Reader subscription. YouTube Chapters — Newly saved YouTube videos now show their chapters in the Contents panel, so you can jump straight to any section. Faster Heavily Highlighted Books — Books with lots of highlights now open much faster. Dozens and dozens of new bug fixes — PDF dark mode no longer resets when you open a sidebar, large PDFs download reliably, EPUB tables of contents stay correct when you switch books, bracketed tag names no longer crash the app, "Save to" no longer crashes with long book lists, highlights made across links and line breaks anchor correctly, swiping through your feed no longer skips articles, text-to-speech handles plain-text feed items better, tags and text scale with larger system font sizes, and Ghostreader prompts now apply their changes properly.... and so much more. Previously: Mobile Chat — The long awaited “chat with document” feature is now available on mobile. Intuitively ask any question while reading and receive a fast, accurate answer that will link to the cited text in the document. Ghostreader is also aware of your position and context while reading -- it’s like a smart friend reading over your shoulder that you can ask questions. To try it, just trigger Ghostreader while reading. Modern Toolbar — We’re also introducing a new mobile toolbar in the reading view! You can enable it in the app from your settings at Account > “Modern Toolbar”. The new toolbar allows you to quickly access ghostreader (in one tap), gives you more easy access to delete documents, and allows you to jump to the previous/next documents without needing to leave the reading view. Of course, if you prefer the existing toolbar, we have preserved that option as well. Upload Markdown — You can now upload markdown documents to Reader. Better Search (beta) — There is now a toggle on the Search screen to enable our new server-based search that runs both more quickly, accurately, consistently, and takes much less time to index all of your documents (compared with our old local-first search). Lookup in Reader — Reader now has a dedicated way to look things up without leaving the page. Easily select (long press) any word or phrase and Reader explains it right away in a dedicated lookup panel. For stand words/terms, get standard definitions, or when you select a term (or name) unique to the document, get the definition the way the author uses it. If you want to revert to the old selection behavior, there is a new option to do that too. Readwise MCP & CLI — The (new, improved) Readwise MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible AI direct access to your Readwise highlights, and the full text of all your Reader documents. Once connected, you can ask your AI to search your notes, answer questions using your own reading history as context, or even make changes to your Reader library for you. We also pre-built AI workflows like inbox triage, feed catchup, a custom book review that is aware of related context in your vault, and a quiz mode for testing yourself on recent reads. Podcast Transcripts — share any podcast episode from Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Overcast into Reader, and it will be saved as a permanent, highlightable transcript.

Released Dec 11, 2022. Current version shipped Oct 8, 2026.
