HOW SURE ARE WE
Not in any grossing chart, so this comes from ratings growth (48 new ratings a month on average since launch): revenue grows with new ratings, more slowly for apps that collect ratings fast. Tested on 418 apps with verified revenue: typically off by about 2 times, and big earners tend to come out low. Countries we don't track (and Google Play in China, which doesn't exist) aren't included, and neither are ads or web payments. Gross revenue before store fees.

Crashes and freezes24%

14 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I used to use it all the time, but now I can't open it, it crashes immediately after I open it, so I have to give it one star
★★★★★ i cant even open the app and do stuff without it crashing five seconds in.
★★★★★ So I opened Dorico and was excited to see that there's an update, so the first thing I did was try to hook up my midi Bluetooth keyboard Dorico crashed every time I tried to open Play in the preferences menu!
Price and subscription15%

9 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Thinking about cancelling and continuing to use Finale until something better comes along to replace Finale - and this does not appear to be that replacement.
★★★★★ I bought the desktop version of Dorico 5 using the cross grade price.
★★★★★ If you use the app daily and a lot, the subscription model work for you.
Lost data, sync, backup12%

7 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ it's not a storage issue either because i deleted multiple apps for this one in case it took up a lot of data and it still didn't work.
★★★★★ So I spent 30 minutes writing it out down a new tune only to find when I close Dorico and reopen that all my work was lost!!.
★★★★★ My iPad is up to date, the app is up to date, and I even restarted my iPad and deleted/redownloaded the app.
Bugs, things not working8%

5 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I used to use it all the time, but now I can't open it, it crashes immediately after I open it, so I have to give it one star
★★★★★ Suddenly this app doesn't work?
★★★★★ I cannot recommend this software to anyone until the developers don't fix this issue, which looking at the forums has happened to many people. I was working on a file for many days and suddenly I just couldn't open it…
Wrong or poor results7%

4 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ The free version is so crippled that it is useless.
★★★★★ Typing 16 notes at the very beginning should be easy, but it's not. I type in the 16 note in an empty bar, and without giving me any options, it puts the note in the middle of the bar and an eighth and the 16th note…
★★★★★ A free version is useless without these features (and please don't go to the “pro” argument - there is very little money to be made in music prep - which I've done - except for a handful of folks in the industry).
No customer support7%

4 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ And there is no support for handwriting.
★★★★★ support reagiert nicht, schon mehrmals angeschrieben.
★★★★★ Support was like “it shouldn't do that”.
Missing features7%

4 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Finished inputting a chart and the program shifted the first 32 bars by an 8th note, no way to undo it, have to re-input all those bars.
★★★★★ When I reopen the app after a crash, the score is completely missing — Dorico never thought to save my work.
★★★★★ So many quantization errors in the rhythm, a built-in keyboard that cannot keep up and responds intermittently to taps, and it even created a measure in 4/4 time that had 3-18 beats in I it and couldn't for the life of…
Worse after an update5%

3 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ So I opened Dorico and was excited to see that there's an update, so the first thing I did was try to hook up my midi Bluetooth keyboard Dorico crashed every time I tried to open Play in the preferences menu!
★★★★★ However, half the time, the app crashes every 2-3 minutes and does not save my progress (after the most recent update on Oct.
★★★★★ *Update per developer's response: I read your response and am sorry to say that I remain unconvinced by your pricing model.
WHAT THEY ASK FOR
  • My only problem with this app is that there is a bug when I do Shift A to add a rehearsal mark and cannot edit the rehearsal mark to the index I want to without the app crashing. 5★, Jun 27, 2026
  • But that doesn't even matter because if you do try to add more than 10 or so instruments it crashes and your progress is lost (I even tried saving the instruments one by one but that didn't work) 4★, Dec 30, 2025
  • The learn options should address only the iPad versions being that there is some differences. 5★, Nov 17, 2024
  • One of the only things I wish it had was a way to make a score for a whole school band. 3★, Jun 14, 2024
  • Also it's really glitchy if you try to add a bunch of different instruments. 3★, Jun 14, 2024
  • I've also been having this problem of when sometimes I add a 2nd part to a measure, it glitches out and adds other 2nd parts to every other measure in the file. 4★, Jul 2, 2023
  • A manual save feature would be nice even if it's just a placebo. 3★, Jun 6, 2023
  • It has everything I would ever need as a composer/songwriter/arranger and I am very pleased with it. 5★, May 1, 2023

★★★★★ The touch screen interface does make it feel a little less 'pro' as using it on desktop, but that's partially just a preference.
★★★★★ This is an incredible application for a very specific purpose, and it generates beautiful scores with ease.
★★★★★ I have found it very easy to use touch and pen input, and the subtle interface differences still make sense to me.
Great support9%

★★★★★ Wonderful software, wonderful users Forum, wonderful support, wonderful output!
★★★★★ But i'll still buy the subscription just to support the creators!
★★★★★ Nach dem sehr guten Support konnte ich das Problem vorläufig lösen, sodass ich meine Bewertung auf 5 * erhöhen.
Worth the money7%

★★★★★ I would need to pay, to add chord letter-markings, but I can input the chords themselves with the free version.
★★★★★ I bought the one-time purchase for Dorico for iPad and I think it's absolutely worth every pence.
★★★★★ The app is amazing and provides a great host of features, even on the free tier.
Easy to use6%

★★★★★ Für mich bisher die beste App zum Notenschreiben auf dem iPad. Selbst mit der kostenlosen Version kann ich fünfstimmige Stücke schreiben, ziemlich gut formatieren und exportieren. Und der Support ist super.
★★★★★ Unlike Sibelius, which I always found to be user unfriendly, and clumsy, when it came to intuitively inputting data, Dorico's inputs are so intuitive, and based on common sense, that use of the software is not only…
★★★★★ Very simple and efficient.

★★★★★ As I age, my eyes are getting weak. I needed to re-score some music, and pencil on manuscript paper wasn't cutting it. I went searching, and found this software. I was able to input my score, bass clef and treble,…

the free version is useless on the ipad

The free version is so crippled that it is useless. I only have just so many 5 dollar bills to throw around.

★★★★★Oct 16, 2026
Why?

I don’t understand why your YouTube channel says this app is free when you can’t put more than twelve instruments before paying, I thought I found the best app to start composing, but I found out this app is no different from the others.

★★★★★Oct 2, 2026
The Gold Standard

Dorico is in a league of its own. It‘s easily the best scoring software, and no other app comes close to matching its depth and workflow.

★★★★★Sep 20, 2026
Not very easy at all

This is one of the most frustrating programs that I have ever tried to learn. Finale had its challenges, but nothing like this. I have been trying to learn this program for over a year and I have yet to finish a project of any sort with it. This is not fun! It totally destroys all creativity. You spend all your time just trying to figure out how to get notes entered and where you want them to be etc. If it’s not one thing it’s another. So I resort to just writing with pencil and manuscript paper 99% of the time. And then I put all that into finale.

★★★★★Sep 13, 2026
Best app ever!

This app is definitely the best option for editing Midi files, and you can even compose your own music too! 100% would recommend 🎶🎹

★★★★★Sep 10, 2026
Die Bedienung ist eine Katastrophe

Man findet keinerlei Hilfe wie man es bedient. Nachdem ich nach langem suchen nicht finden konnte wie man die Tonart einstellt habe ich es wieder deinstalliert.
