HOW SURE ARE WE
Not in any grossing chart, so this comes from ratings growth (107 new ratings a month on average since launch): revenue grows with new ratings, more slowly for apps that collect ratings fast. Tested on 418 apps with verified revenue: typically off by about 2 times, and big earners tend to come out low. Countries we don't track (and Google Play in China, which doesn't exist) aren't included, and neither are ads or web payments. Gross revenue before store fees.

WHAT THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT · SHARE OF BAD REVIEWS
Price and subscription59%

127 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I'm not paying a subscription just to write text.
★★★★★ Easy to use and elegant, but only for 3 txt edits. Forced to pay just to modify 8 bits of information.
★★★★★ This app used to be great until the developer enveloped a paywall around it.
Limits, credits, locked features11%

24 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I will not be downloading another app from this developer. Waste of time do not download.
★★★★★ I refuse to change my credit card all because of this nonsense so I need these charges to stop as well as refund me back all my money or I'll take those responsible for this app to court!
★★★★★ Don't say something is free and then block use unless the user signs up and provides credit card/payment information.
Bugs, things not working7%

14 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Keyboard doesn't come up any more - can't type
★★★★★ it will not let me edit the .txt file
★★★★★ Worked fine for 1 day, then unable to enter any text on ipad either on an old document or a new one. Unable to select or do anything. Additionally, after the first day of use, it non-stop puts a pop-up with a tiny…
Wrong or poor results7%

14 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I only added this app due to the day I needed something to write with concerning an emergency with my job and for some peculiar reason no writing software and not even Google was functioning at the time so I went for…
★★★★★ But the app is now useless, as I can't edit ANY document without the “claim your (not) free upgrade” coming up again.
★★★★★ I can't get past the ad to upgrade, not sure if this is intended
Lost data, sync, backup4%

8 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Unless I upgrade to the 99 cent weekly I have lost access to all my files.
★★★★★ The interface is decent, about as good as the Files app, and it's easy to open a file (once you get past the pressure to subscribe), but when I closed the file you've edited, my edits were gone.
★★★★★ I deleted the document I created on the app, and unfortunately the document now remains on my iPad's Files app because the original was deleted.
Missing features4%

8 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ No way to close the popups.
★★★★★ But the app is now useless, as I can't edit ANY document without the “claim your (not) free upgrade” coming up again.
★★★★★ Lacks simplicity of a TXT editor, pop-ups you can't bypass etc.
Crashes and freezes3%

7 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Some files cause the app to freeze and others the app will let you scroll a little bit then slam you back to the bottom.
★★★★★ Works, but after a few days it won't open anything, instead offering “Claim your free Text Editor+ and unlock all features”; clicking 'upgrade now' reveals it's a $0.99/week subscription.
★★★★★ Freezes your files out to try to force a subscription.
Too many ads2%

4 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I don't want any of the things the “upgrade” gets me (dark mode, removed ads, etc).
★★★★★ Also if you wanna make money so bad then run ads because charging a subscription for something that like dark mode while EVERY other app that has dark mode includes it for FREE.
★★★★★ Has spammy ads that can lock you out of your files trapped inside
WHAT THEY ASK FOR
  • But something like this - a text editor - should have a one-time purchase option if it's going to have a purchase option at all. 1★, Jun 2, 2026
  • I wish the day that my job wasn't in jeopardy and wished I've read the reviews because this is criminal and insane. 1★, Mar 19, 2024
  • Please make this a free app to use. 1★, Nov 28, 2023
  • Would be great if u didn't have to pay to use the app after you used it 3 times….. 1★, Dec 23, 2022
  • I probably should have payed closer attention to the terms, but it really should be made more clear. 1★, Aug 25, 2022
  • How hard could it be to add a “next” on the find and replace. 1★, Jul 13, 2022
  • The user interface is perfect for my needs and it works flawlessly for my simple needs. 5★, May 31, 2022
  • I wish there was a warning, or less surface area available to mess things up. 3★, Feb 24, 2021

Just one thing

I like it but the factor that you have the choice to make a subscription is diabolical

Nice

Wish a lot of it wasn’t paid but this works

★★★★★Sep 19, 2026
Cash grab.

It just prompts you to pay after making like 3 text files. I’m not paying a subscription just to write text.
