HOW SURE ARE WE
Not in any grossing chart, so this comes from ratings growth (65 new ratings a month on average since launch): revenue grows with new ratings, more slowly for apps that collect ratings fast. Tested on 418 apps with verified revenue: typically off by about 2 times, and big earners tend to come out low. Countries we don't track (and Google Play in China, which doesn't exist) aren't included, and neither are ads or web payments. Gross revenue before store fees.

Price and subscription25%

2 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I got charged twice for a 1 year subscription on MochiKanji and received NOTHING.
★★★★★ There is not enough value here to even come close to justifying that price tag.
WHAT THEY ASK FOR
  • But if you need a fun way to learn words quickly and make them stick, this is a great app! 5★, Oct 18, 2026
  • My big complaint though is you can only review words when the app tells you to and I get that it's focusing in on the golden time but I often feel that I need more review than it's allowing. 4★, Oct 7, 2026
  • It needs to have more lessons for free and needs N1 Kanji 4★, Sep 20, 2026
  • I wish I hadn't wasted my money because I kind of want to look elsewhere for kanji learning and practice. 3★, Sep 5, 2026
  • Please add a month plan! 3★, Aug 11, 2026
  • The app, like others have mentioned doesn't deal with grammar so, you'll need another resource for that, like TokiniAndy's Genki Grammar on YouTube or Game Gengo on YouTube as well. 3★, May 24, 2026
  • the only thing i wish is that it was free because i cant go past the second lesson and i dont have enough money for the subscription 😭 4★, Jan 25, 2026
  • I love MochiKanji it's super useful but I wish it was a bit cheaper. 5★, Jan 20, 2026

★★★★★ Very helpful with kanji and vocabulary, super organized for people who has mind clutter and do remember this is for after you pretty much fully understand hiragana & katakana!
★★★★★ Even without premium, it's still very useful, and I can't say the same about many other language learning apps.
★★★★★ I like how it says what the kanji looks like and it's really helpful!
Fun, addictive15%

5 of the 4 and 5 star reviews.

★★★★★ But if you need a fun way to learn words quickly and make them stick, this is a great app!
★★★★★ I'm enjoying studying Japanese.
★★★★★ There's another app to connect with it to learn all the letters and how to pronouncing things correctly and it's such a fun experience too and it's kind of more fun with the animations in the details and I love it so…
Easy to use6%

2 of the 4 and 5 star reviews.

★★★★★ It's so easy to understand!
★★★★★ Though i love the app and how easy I can understand it to learn I still love the app.
Worth the money6%

2 of the 4 and 5 star reviews.

★★★★★ It needs to have more lessons for free and needs N1 Kanji
★★★★★ the only thing i wish is that it was free because i cant go past the second lesson and i dont have enough money for the subscription 😭

Better than Duo

Japanese was my first language but after starting public school in the US, I quickly lost fluency. As an adult, I’ve tried many different programs and methods to learn the language again. MochiKanji does a great job gamifying the task of vocab learning. Not only to learn words, but kanji, pronunciation and contextual examples as well. The spaced repetition is done well and the app does a great job with reminders and motivation to review daily. I have ADHD so forming a habit of learning has always been my biggest challenge. I do supplement with podcasts to practice listening and textbooks for grammar learning. But if you need a fun way to learn words quickly and make them stick, this is a great app!

Great app

Using this app is really finally helping me learn Kanji and vocabulary. My big complaint though is you can only review words when the app tells you to and I get that it’s focusing in on the golden time but I often feel that I need more review than it’s allowing. Or if I have extra time to review some more, it won’t even let me for several hours. If there was an option to do extra reviews outside the golden time, then it would be perfect.

Ok. Rips off duolingo design

Not useful if you get it already knowing several kanji and don’t want to be forced to ‘learn’ them again before advancing

★★★★★Sep 20, 2026
Mochi kanji is great but..

It needs to have more lessons for free and needs N1 Kanji

If I wanted to use DuoLingo, I would

The developers changed it to get rid of the garden that we spent so much time building and accumulating. Now it’s an XP “game” that is not interesting or amusing. Pair this with the glitches this app has, and you may as well just go use DuoLingo.
