I used to love this app. Would use it multiple times a day to the point that it’s baked into my daily routine. It is virtually unusable now. The paywall covers so much and the new UI is trash. I am honestly considering deleting it. Update: deleted. Ruined completely.
I really tried to use the new design but it’s so jarring and (seemingly) goes against how I used to use the app that I just decided to delete it and go back to native news apps on my phone. 2 stars because grounds news as an idea is super valuable. Just seems to have fumbled trying to figure out what users want (or at least this user!)
Ground News had a great product but the new version is worthless so I deleted it.
Redid the entire app and made it so that the only viable option is a paid subscription. Greedy greedy people.
Can we please have the option of going back to the original UI. This nee ui is just a screen of wasted space. The prior UI was so much better. Please give us the option to use it. I’ll go to a 5* review if you do. Other 3* for this space wasting UI.
If I want to read an article, a completely artificial 3.5 second "Loading..." spinner displays over the article. This is a NEWS READER that introduces artificial lag when trying to READ THE NEWS. Mind you, I'd also like to directly open in reader mode to avoid ads, but the team behind Ground News on the development side must be completely incompetent to build such poor UX. Or they're in cahoots with the sites they aggregate to assault your eyes with ads. Never attribute to malice what you otherwise could attribute to incompetence, but you've gotta be really incompetent here...
