HOW SURE ARE WE
Not in any grossing chart, so this comes from ratings growth (80 new ratings a month on average since launch): revenue grows with new ratings, more slowly for apps that collect ratings fast. Tested on 418 apps with verified revenue: typically off by about 2 times, and big earners tend to come out low. Countries we don't track (and Google Play in China, which doesn't exist) aren't included, and neither are ads or web payments. Gross revenue before store fees.

WHAT THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT · SHARE OF BAD REVIEWS
Wrong or poor results32%

7 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ It hasn't accurately identified a single mushroom that I've tried. And if you try to go deeper, you get all these ads popping up and then you can't get back to the app
★★★★★ When it did actually bring up potential matches they were so far from the picture as to be totally useless.
★★★★★ I'm a total novice and thought it would be fun to learn a little about what's growing in my yard. I got a sample, set it on a white napkin for contrast and submitted several pictures. The results that came back were…
Too many ads23%

5 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Furthermore, ads make this unusable
★★★★★ And if you try to go deeper, you get all these ads popping up and then you can't get back to the app
★★★★★ So I clicked on the one I thought it was and it immediately took me to random ads.
Bugs, things not working14%

3 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I am not sure why, but it didn't work for me.
★★★★★ It hasn't accurately identified a single species. I'll take a picture of a mushroom that clearly has no gills and it tries telling me it's a gilled mushroom.
★★★★★ Just says error sorry that's really helpful not worth the space on my phone even though it was free
Price and subscription14%

3 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Passes itself as free but requires a subscription to use.
★★★★★ Didn't recognize the mushroom, said it would get better with time. So I clicked on the one I thought it was and it immediately took me to random ads. Deleted immediately.
★★★★★ Why was I charged for something that admits it doesn't really work yet!!

  • Wish it also included the common names in addition to scientific ones. 4★, Jul 18, 2022
  • Also wish it allowed me to copy and paste the scientific name so I could search on my web browser, but I can't highlight the name in order to copy/paste it. 4★, Jul 18, 2022
  • The app doesn't have instructions on how to add more pictures to the gallery which is frustrating 2★, Nov 17, 2020

Don’t waste your time

Chatgpt now does the same job. Furthermore, ads make this unusable

Wrong every time

It hasn’t accurately identified a single mushroom that I’ve tried. And if you try to go deeper, you get all these ads popping up and then you can’t get back to the app

Not free

Passes itself as free but requires a subscription to use. I’m not interested in professional stuff. I just found a bunch of mushrooms once and want to know what they are.

Great reference

For most searches it’s dead-on. However, nothing’s perfect, or maybe it’s my photos, but even when it’s a little off it’s still helpful enough to lead me to another reference for an accurate identification. Keeping it!
