Get most of it right

I use this app every day and have for at least three years. Overall, it’s great but it’s lacking two things that I find to be annoying and wonder why they’re not easily resolved. First, the search feature is pointless. If I’m trying to find an article and I know one of the last names of the person that was in the article I would think that I would find every article that had that last name. Nope. I just get a bunch of random articles and most of them in Spanish for some bizarre reason even though I’ve checked my settings and it’s clearly set to English. The second annoyance is the inability to shift an article to someone from within the app. You have to go to a desktop version in order to get an article. Since most of us are reading news in digital forms these days and I’m fairly certain a lot of that is happening on handheld devices, it would be great to see the UT fix this issue.

Scrolling is broken

On both iPhone and iPad, scrolling the home page is horribly jumpy. Much worse on iPad. The home page will just start scrolling itself without touching the screen. Sliding up (backwards) seems to provoke it, but even that isn’t strictly necessary.

Pages won’t turn

Recently in using the app the pages don’t turn when trying to read. When I swipe to turn the page it will go back to the front page, then when I click to re-open it takes forever (or doesn’t) re-open. Also, some articles won’t open when clicked on. This is a recent problem. I’ll cancel my subscription if this isn’t fixed as it’s taking too long (or not possible) to click through the paper.

Still no night mode

I have been a digital describes for years and there was a night mode on the old app. When the new app came out I sent a message to request this feature back since I often work and night and it makes it easier on the eyes to read the news in night mode. I was assured night mode was coming back, and… multiple update and still no night mode. The only positive the new app has is crossword puzzles. Bring back night mode.

This faster native app now has the following new features: Your News: Provide personalized recommendations for content based on user preferences. Users will be allowed to customize the content they want to engage with by selecting the topics they are truly interested in. By going to the "Your News" tab the user can bypass the noise of all that is published and home in on the content they want Saved Articles: Save feature that allows users to save articles or other content they are interested in for later reading or reference.Push notifications will remind users to read their saved articles or suggest related content Custom Push Notifications: The user can select what topics they want to be notified about which makes for a much less intrusive experience. Top Navigation Bar: A top navigation bar lets the user switch between sections by swiping or tapping. Enews in-app: Desire the newspaper experience? No need to open a separate app! By simply going to Settings and selecting E-News the user can browse the Digital Replica of the day's paper. Offline Reading: This feature allows users to enable offline reading from Settings. Offline "Reading Preferences" can also be customized for Settings. Swipe Left: Instead of going back to the main section to find more articles, users have the option to simply swipe, immediately opening other articles in the Section. Follow Topics: A user will be shown articles on topics they are following. To follow select "follow" at the article level and related articles will gain relevancy and be shown more frequently.
