WHAT THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT · SHARE OF BAD REVIEWS
Price and subscription28%

27 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ This seems like an amazing app based on everything I've seen, but everything is locked behind a paywall.
★★★★★ You literally cannot do anything until you purchase the subscription.
★★★★★ There is no free version of this app without a subscription fee.
Bugs, things not working13%

13 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Maybe it's a bug, but I simply installed another text editor to simply READ the file.
★★★★★ Unless I am doing something wrong, simple editing does not work without subscription.
★★★★★ No puedo subir los archivos a al servidor, todo el tiempo marca un error.
Limits, credits, locked features7%

7 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I have to pay just to look at text content?
★★★★★ Only in Pro useful, so I HAVE to pay anyway, then make it directly as paid, so I do not have to install it first to have a disfunctional app.
★★★★★ This seems like an amazing app based on everything I've seen, but everything is locked behind a paywall.
Lost data, sync, backup7%

7 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I've never deleted an app so fast.
★★★★★ Here's the bad… All my code files just disappeared.
★★★★★ I am unsure why - maybe iCloud sync is reloading the document and it only remembers some keystrokes?
Wrong or poor results7%

7 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Unless I am doing something wrong, simple editing does not work without subscription.
★★★★★ The free version is only a placeholder. It cannot even read text files, let alone edit. Label it honestly with the $19.99 price tag.
★★★★★ This app is basically useless to me without a git integration.
No customer support6%

6 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ I wouldn't mind paying for the life-time version if it was cheaper, but it's like $70 for some basic features and coding support for a good chunk of languages and that's it pretty much.
★★★★★ Dropbox support provided by app is pretty much useless, thus can't do much.
★★★★★ I'm Chinese,I sincerely hope you can support Chinese Language. And how can I run codes?I can understand most of the English words but I still don't know how to run codes.Plz help me.
Missing features5%

5 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ It's missing prediction in CSS and JS.
★★★★★ Requested a refund since the lack of this capability make the app not useful for me.
★★★★★ I'm now completely used to the awkward workflow but I still sometimes overwrite a file that I edited somewhere else and wind up with a mix of my Textastic edits into a local file missing the previously committed edits…
Worse after an update4%

4 of the 1 and 2 star reviews.

★★★★★ Last update is the worst ever.
★★★★★ I've bought this app many years ago, now as per new version notes all new features released in the future won't be available to me.
★★★★★ Until the latest update came.
WHAT THEY ASK FOR
  • I highly recommend & encourage anyone who needs anything to do with coding to give Textastic a try. 5★, Sep 20, 2026
  • Maybe I should have been using the AI to write me a text reader for iOS. 1★, Sep 1, 2026
  • I wish the pro subscription were less of a necessity and more of an optional upgrade for advanced features. 2★, Aug 15, 2026
  • I don't need any application bad enough to have monthly subscriptions. 1★, Jun 2, 2026
  • However there are some modern features I wish it had such as being able to preview my Next.js, react typescript projects, The browser preview I'd love to be able to change device widths like what google chrome can do… 3★, Sep 4, 2025
  • Wish they were upfront about that on the description. 2★, Jun 30, 2025
  • Great experience with this app, just wish it would be easier to create a .lua script on mobile without this app, but for free 😃 Still, did not expect such easiness! 4★, Jun 16, 2025
  • HOWEVER, as old as this IDE is it should have a formatter. 2★, Apr 21, 2025

Perfect Efficient Text Editor

Easy, clean UI. True plain text editor with efficient tools and snappy response. Makes working with plain text on iOS a dream.

Literally Cannot Even Look Without Paying. Confusing as Well

What is this? I have to pay just to look at text content? What’s the point of that? Like I can understand paying for some other features, but not the basic, bare minimum ones. That’s ridiculous. Open a file, pay-wall telling you to pay to look at the code. I wouldn’t mind paying for the life-time version if it was cheaper, but it’s like $70 for some basic features and coding support for a good chunk of languages and that’s it pretty much. Worthless.

Completely Amazed

Now this has to be the most user-friendly app out there. After 15 years of owning an iPhone, this is my first-ever review I’m leaving on an app because it’s just that good. I didn’t know a single thing about coding. All I knew is that I had a project to finish that needed to involve it, and I’m without a PC. So I gave the free trial a whirl to see what all I could accomplish with it. And before I knew it, the guy who had about as much understanding as a caveman does with technology was able to finish the project days before the trial even ended! Everything works so seamlessly; the interface makes it a breeze, and you’re given so many tools to help you at your disposal. On top of that, I haven’t run into a single bug or crash after hours of tinkering with it. I highly recommend & encourage anyone who needs anything to do with coding to give Textastic a try. The free trial is all you need to experience the ease of coding that these devs worked so hard to accomplish. Even though I don’t need this app anymore, I may just buy it outright to show these devs some support. They’ve definitely earned it.

Best All Around Code Editor on iPad

Please do not let this app die and become another software developer’s “if only”. Dev tools on the iPad are so limited and I cannot describe the gratitude I have that this exists. PRETTY PLEASE KEEP THIS GOING AND ONLY IMPROVING

What's new in 10.9.10
