Autodarts: Darts Scorer

I have used the autodarts web version for some time and this new partnership is promising for the long-term potential of the app. It has a ways to go to catch the maturity of dartcounter, but if they can quickly get additional features and more gamification into the app it should become the best out there. The fact that you can use a diy setup, lens, or their own proprietary scoring is a big win over dartcounters closed system.

**edited review One my primary complaints was explained on the devs discord server. The referee is not supported on the mobile LENS version so that is why I was unable to correct some darts in a few matches. It’s a bug allowing LENS players into ref only matches (or they need to allow a mobile player editing capabilities). They also fixed the audio issues with killing audio played in the background. Detection for a single camera is very accurate as of the latest update. I would still like to see some sort of live video or a series pushflank dont snipe frames taken just before and just after a dart is detected to be used as an animation in the absence of live video. A little too easy for a knob to cheat during a tournament game. All in all this looks like the #1 contender for online darts with automatic scoring! **original below**So the apps interface is pretty slick. There are some core issues though. There is no live video. This makes determining if a player is honest very difficult. Changing a dart incorrectly scored by LENS is also problematic. I tried changing 2 big errors made by LENS and neither would go through when I tried. There is no lobby and the only game out of all the options is 501. There is no option for voice comms either. All in all, it shows promise but it’s missing basics that have to be there. It’s good practice app but for competitive play the other more matured apps are where I spend my subscription money Oh, and another annoying downside is Autodarts kills all background audio so if you like to play some music on the same device… forget it.

Much better after fixing my board setup — but auto-scoring still needs work I originally left a pretty harsh review (1-star) because the auto-scoring was wildly inaccurate for me. The developer reached out and helped me figure out the problem: my dartboard was rotated so the 20 was white instead of black. The auto-scoring relies on the standard board color layout, so that was the main reason I was getting ridiculous calls like aiming at T20 and having it register as T5. Unique/custom-colored boards also won’t work properly. After correcting my board, the accuracy improved dramatically. I’d estimate it’s now around 80–90%, which is a huge improvement and makes the feature genuinely useful. That said, I still think accuracy needs to be considerably higher before I would fully trust it. For me, the entire appeal of auto-scoring is that it removes the mental effort of keeping track of every dart. If I have to constantly look at the result, decide whether it was correct, and occasionally correct the score, it defeats part of the purpose. I don’t expect 100% accuracy, but I’d like the confidence that I can play a match without babysitting the scoring system. At 80–90%, I still find myself second-guessing it enough that sometimes I’d rather just do the math myself or use a dry-erase board. Fortunately, correcting a score is quick and convenient, so this isn’t a huge inconvenience. It’s just enough of one that improving auto-scoring reliability would make a massive difference in the overall experience. The rest of the app is excellent. The UI is extremely clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate. I especially enjoy playing matches against the bots, which generally feel pretty fair and balanced, and I love being able to see my statistics and progress. A few features I’d love to see: • Unranked/free-play mode — I’d like to let my wife or friends try the app without affecting my stats or progression. • Online lobbies/matchmaking — A way to find and play other players would be great. • More multiplayer game options — More than just the current selection would add a lot of replayability. • Voice/video options — I played someone online who appeared to be hitting 180 after 180, and without any way to verify the match, I had absolutely no idea whether I was playing Luke Littler himself or someone having a very creative scoring session. 😂 Some form of verification or live interaction would make online play much more engaging. • Music while playing — I’d love an option to let music from another app continue playing without having to completely disable the app’s sound. • Alternative UI layouts/orientation — Depending on where you mount your phone/tripod, certain buttons can become difficult or impossible to reach. Being able to rotate the interface or choose from a few different layouts would be a great quality-of-life feature. Overall, I actually really like this app. After fixing my board setup, the auto-scoring is significantly better than my original experience, and I appreciate the developer taking the time to explain what was happening. I could absolutely see myself paying for this app to play solo. For me, that’s where it really shines: playing matches against the bots, tracking statistics, and having everything handled digitally. If the auto-scoring can eventually get to the point where I rarely feel the need to double-check it, this could go from a good app to an essential part of my dart setup.

I’ve had a great time testing out this new app and can’t say enough good things about it. After following the app direction for set up and setting up my phone tripod properly the accuracy is amazing.
