Cal AI - Calorie Tracker

I’ve bought a year and yet every time I open the app it says “we have a gift for you, 3 day free trial and an offer on a yearly subscription” Can’t even message support as the email support feature in the app doesn’t work

I downloaded this wanting something easier than my fitness pal but the food options are all US based “coffee with cream” etc and also mentions of $ Would love this if it was more UK friendly but until then, I’ve cancelled the subscription

I’ve been using this for about 4 weeks now. I had heard that the app isn’t the most accurate, but that the margin of error was pretty immaterial. I have found the margin of error significant. Especially for the last few days. Yesterday I took a photo of my lunch which included 6 cherry tomatoes, which were easily separately identifiable. The app estimated that there were 800g of tomatoes on my plate! It also read my quartered scotch egg as 3 scotch eggs. Of course, the calorie estimate was over 3 x the actual meal. I’m constantly having to go in and edit the ingredients and quantities. Attempting to use the fix issue button seems to confuse things further and I end up having to delete the entry and start again. Today, it has changed the micro nutrients in my saved cup of tea, and now thinks there are 44mg of sodium in one cup - it’s black tea with milk! What swung this app for me was the interaction with the Apple Health app, but that doesn’t work all that well. The calorie burn I see on my move ring in fitness is always higher than what appears in Cal AI. And every time a workout is loaded, an error message comes up about duplicated calories. The app does not do everything it promises, and I would not buy it again.

I scanned the barcode of an arla chocolate protein shake and apparently it had 1g of protein in. I also tested the accuracy by scanning the nutrition guide on the packet of two eggs and two slices of toast, which somehow there was more protein in the toast, the total calories of them added together was around 450kcal and had around 30g of protein. Then I scanned the 2 eggs on 2 slices of toast with the ai scanner and the results were completely different with around 230kcal and around 20g of protein. Also if you try and search food through the data base, don’t bother because anything you eat will not be on there unless if it’s really unspecified. In summary, a con and waste of money.
