What's new in 27.0
⌚ watchOS 27 Update
The latest watchOS27 update changed how your Watch measures indoor skating, and unfortunately, its speed and distance estimates are no longer reliable.
We’re rebuilding indoor speed tracking for watchOS 27. When your Watch can’t measure skating reliably, HockeyTracker now tells you instead of showing numbers we can’t trust. Outdoor speed and distance tracking remain available.
The fix?
We’re launching a public beta to test and tune our new tracking approach, and we need your help! Only users on watchOS27+ will see these. Those on earlier OS versions still have reliable and speed and distance calculations.
How?
- Try a Calibration skate. This short guided drill helps personalize your estimates. Your Watch walks you through it: stand still, skate at least four laps, then stand still again. Find Calibration near the bottom of the session list on your Watch.
- Tell us how it compares. Once calibrated, Pro users can see estimated distance and skating time for Practice, Open Skate, and Stick Time sessions. Estimates are clearly labeled and don’t count toward trends or records.
- Share a recording. After a calibration or outdoor skate, you can choose to send its recording to the HockeyTracker team right from the app. Nothing is sent automatically. Sharing is optional, but it helps us improve tracking.
Also in This Update
- Fixed shifts and ice time on watchOS 27. Indoor games could merge shifts and inflate ice time. HockeyTracker now uses wrist motion to help detect when you’re on the bench.
- NEW: Start hands-free. Use the Action button on Apple Watch Ultra, Siri, or an iPhone Shortcut, including automations like “when I arrive at the rink.” (Phone must be unlocked to run the automation)
- NEW: Hold to end workouts so you don't accidentally end a workout, plus plenty of polish.
Released Jan 31, 2018. Current version shipped Oct 16, 2026.

Notes:
• HockeyTracker requires an Apple Watch to collect the data it displays
