Retro Highway

This is so addictive

I got the Premium pass. Sense of speed is amazing. Lots of bikes and tracks to unlock. Controls are smooth as butter and the hit detection is spot on. You can really weave your way thru some intense situations, only getting thru by a literal matter of inches! Just a great game you can play in spurts or for hours at a time. Can’t say enough good things about Retro Highway! It reminds me of the fabulous 90’s arcade racer, ‘Road Rash!’ If you know, you KNOW!

The lighting changes are honestly my first big complaint. I was hopeful that the customization was to disable nights, not make them permanent. They’re kind of obnoxious to my eyes. I do miss actual bars for bonus durations as opposed to the icons, but I’m used to what I still consider a downgrade. However, that could be an opportunity to redeem some of these other lighting effects. A proper animation or audio cue, something the games this is styled after were fantastic at, that signaled the approaching end of a buff would be much more useful than a vague glow and a fading icon. That said, this has been surprisingly consistent. Outside of a glitch that was actually exploitable for much easier challenges earlier on in the update cycle, I’ve never seen them be particularly buggy. Roof jumps are obnoxiously precise with vague triggers, but beyond that, it plays very responsively and consistently. It’s fairly rare to feel something was cheap and unfair. The only real request (outside of further expanding the soundtrack, which is being outpaced by the other expansions at this point) I’ve had that has not shown signs of life would be that challenges show in the menu prior to starting a level, as well as at the continue screen. Knowing which stage is appropriate, or knowing if a continue may get you the challenge you’re after (showing me a 47/50 on that continue screen is likely to get me to keep going) would be very helpful.

genuinely one of the most fun games you can play on the app store ♡ if you like mario kart & the upbeat, retro, 8bit vibes of a game like victory heat rally, you’ll adore the charm of retro highway. it’s easy to pick up & hard to put down. it’s simple but surprisingly in depth when it comes to upgrades & customization options for what it is (being a mobile game or inexpensive game on console platforms.) you can definitely tell a lot of love was poured into this vibrant little game. the art style, gameplay & music is wonderful, engaging & visually very pleasing.

I’d really like to see a synthwave themed map to choose. I’m thinking neon roads, distance black mountains with a neon outline and a synthwave looking sun on the horizon. Would love to see it. And the rain on this map would be neon green drops instead of blue as if it were code
